Fixing Links on SeekingIlm.com/ilm

Salamu ‘alaykum all,

Because we moved the actual “blog” content away from the main site and placed it in “ilm”, if you come across a link you must insert “ilm” in order for it to work.

Example:

http://seekingilm.com/archives/780

will become:

http://seekingilm.com/ilm/archives/780

If links do not work, this is the reason why!

A Response to the Tantawi Cult : The Many Books of Classical Sunni Tafsir that Mention The Covering of the Face

Basmala

Recently the deceptive and sly enemy of our Ummah, “Shaykh Al-Azhar” Tantawi claimed that “The niqab is a tradition and has nothing to do with Islam.” He further banned the niqab in the noble Azhar, following the whims of the shayatin and taghut within the Egyptian government, may Allah guide them all Amin!

I tried to forward 4 possible reasons why he made this horrible blunder. The first possible reason for his stance that I gave was,

That he is truly ignorant of this matter. If such is the case, it only shows the lack of knowledge held by him and his immense ignorance! It shows he has not picked up a single major work of tafsir, and has in fact abandoned the works of traditional fiqh as well!

In a comment someone challenged me on this point saying:

Dear Abul Layth,

Assalamu’alaikum. How sure are you regarding the option that you wrote assuming that Tantawi have not held a book of tafsir in his life? Are you aware of the fact that he has written a 7000 long tafsir on the Qur’an which took him over 10 years to complete? What book…or article of tafsir have you written my friend?

If it is true that Tantawi wrote a “7000 [page] long tafsir” while still claiming that the Niqab has nothing to do with Islamic law, then one could say that this claim of mine must be null. For certainly this “master of Islam”,”doctor of the law”, “Shaykh of Al-Azhar”, Jurisconsult appointed by the idiot and human rights abuser Hosni Mubarak must certainly know more than the insignificant Abul-Layth!

Tantawi's Verdict on The Niqab, Our Response

As-Salamu ‘Alaykum Readers,

As most of you already know, the “Shaykh” of Al-Azhar University has condemned a young woman for wearing niqab. He also seeks to ban the niqab throughout the university.  His exact words were,

“The niqab is a tradition and has nothing to do with Islam.”

Similar claims were made by a “Shaykh” named Abdul Qadir Al Murabit, who said,

“The Arab deviations from the Deen, embodied most dramatically in evil suicide bombing and the equally evil hinduisation of women, involving the masking of the woman’s face – utterly against the command of the Qur’an and the Sunna, which requires the face to be left free”

We responded to his lies in August of 2007 here. There is absolutely no doubt that the scholars of the past, the earliest Muslims in particular, held that the face of a woman is to be covered. We have written extensively, producing statements from the companions and generations that followed after them, on the opinion that the face of a woman is to be covered. You can simply click the link to read for yourself.

This would be a great opportunity for seekers of ‘ilm to sit with some heavy weight scholars in the west. We certainly know Shaykh Talal is strong in fiqh, and Shaykh Ramzy has few equals in the west. If you can make the trip, definitely try your utmost to attend insha’allah.

Maliki fiqh prayer manual

Bismillah.

As salam `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

I’ve noticed this site has become a popular destination for “Maliki fiqh” searches; there’s a draft prayer manual under “SI’s Research” on the toolbar above.  Nothing fancy, but it explains the basics, inshaAllah.

Wasalam.

PS: Do check out The Medina Way to enroll in an upcoming course on Al-Murshid al-Mu`in.

Imam As-Suyuti's Treatise on the Hadith "Seeking Ilm is Obligatory on Every Muslim"

 Basmala

I recently fell upon a treatise written by Imam As-Suyuti wherein he collects 49 narratives of the hadith

طلب العلم فريضة على كل مسلم

“Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim [and in another narration it uses the feminine form as well "and Muslimah"].”

He begins the brief treatise with stating that Imam An-Nawawi (r) was asked whether or not this hadith was authentic and to which he responded that the hadith is da’if (weak), although its meaning is Sahih (authentic/in this case it means ‘correct’). As-Suyuti then quotes the opinion of Hafith Al-Mizzi stating that this hadith reaches the level of ‘Hasan’ (reliable/good hadith).

The Prophets Are Alive in Their Graves And Al-Albani's Recanting His Opinion!

Basmala

The following scan is taken from the book “Taraj’u Al-‘Allamah Al-Albani fimaa Nass ‘Alayhi tas-hihan wa tad-‘ifan” authored by Abul Hasan Hasan Ash-Shaykh. It is a collection of contradictory verdicts found throughout the works of Al-Albani, but specifically his recantantions on his verdicts. In this scan we see that originally Al-Albani believed that the hadith, “The Prophets are alive in their graves, praying” was da’if (weak) because ibn Qutaybah was the only one to have reported this narration. Later on, he says, after looking in to further works of hadith he just happened to realize that the chain was in fact “strong” and thus authentic. So, he says, if you find in any of works that he weakened this hadith, take hold upon his verdict of authentication with your “molars”!

Rational Quranic Religion Vs. Wahhabism

Sidi Abu Adam subtitles this work with: “A refutation of Anthropomorphist Missionary Yaser Qadi’s “The Theo-logical Implications of the Story of Ibrahim & the Stars (Ibn Taymiyyah vs. the Mutakallimun).” (download by clicking)

The article’s intent, as it seems to me, is to prove that the Imams of Islam were Mutakallimin. His argument stems from a brief excerpt that he translates taken from Shaykh Abdul-Qahir Al-Baghdadi’s Usulud-Din. The fact isy, anyone who picks up a book titled “Tabaqat” will find that the Imam’s of Islam utilized Kalam to defeat the opponents of the Sunnah.

Part 3: Conclusionary Remarks on the Issue of Muta'ah

Basmala

For the past few months I have delved into every major comparitive fiqh book of the Imams of Islam I could find. I have asked several qualified students and scholars regarding the issue of muta’ah, and it is within this post that I would like to state my conclusionary views on muta’ah by responding to Br Rand Talas’s question(s). He stated (asked):

Assalamu Alaikum

Mashallah, this article really helped, as the AnsweringAnsar website has some disturbing information. However, as mentioned in Ibn Hazm’s Muhalla, muta’ah was allowed in the time of the khilafa of Abu Bakr and Umar, and it was only at the end of Umar’s reign that Umar disallowed it. So why did Umar allow it for some time, and then prohibit it later? The Shia claim that the Prophet had never prohibited it, and that the Sunnis innovated with regards to it by following Umar.
