Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmathullah wa barakatuhu
This is my first visit to this site and I am deeply impressed. Alhamdulillah your two articles on whether niqaab etc is fard are expertly argued and backed by intense scholasticism. I look forward insha’Allah to your third article on this subject.
Walaikum salaam from your sister in Islam, Aliyah

  3. Abul Layth says:

Mujahidah if your question is personal and not related to the topic of this article you need to go to http://qa.sunnipath.com/ and ask your questions there.

Feel free to ask questions regarding Niqab or relative topic however.

  4. Musa Ali says:

‘Niqab: seal on the debate’ [ISBN 978-983-43614-0-2] is an interesting book i read arguing, convincingly, the case that Niqab is not wajib.
Love the Shafi’i madhab – just find the evidence on the other side more convincing in this issue

  5. Umm Layth says:

Kamillah Khan (the author of that book) has some of her weak arguments posted on todaysmuslimah.com. For anyone who has studied this issue, even if you don’t believe it to be fardh, it should be pretty obvious how weak the arguments are.

They need to be responded to.

  6. Musa Ali says:

What are the ‘obviously’ weak arguments?(without the sensational condescension)

  7. Umm Layth says:

Musa, I may have such an attitude because the condescending attitude was something I found within her article as she put herself above all the scholars who ever held it to be wajib to cover the face, claiming that she was now the one with the final word on this (as is obvious with the title of her book).

I can’t quote anything from her site because her article is no longer up (as her book was published), but I can tell you that she ignored many of the proofs about Jilbab within that article that are some of the main proofs for the scholars who deem the face to be ‘awrah. There were some other things that I found a wee bit funny in an article she wrote but I don’t know if it was this one, where she said that women who have decided to go all the way also need to stay home. I recall telling a friend about her saying that if you are a simple woman with a khimar then you don’t need to apply that part of the ruling (i.e. staying home). This is erroneous for so many reasons. If you quote anything from her book though I’m sure it can be responded to here. I have a horrible memory and don’t want to do an injustice to her, either.

Really it was nothing new, but it definitely could have been better. Her book is also not “seal to the debate”. And it never will be the seal to the debate, because this debate has been going on for a long time and if the greatest of ‘ulema couldn’t come to a final agreement then there is no chance that we will.

  8. Abul Layth says:

Actually almost all of her claims are responded to in this second part of the research. If you have any specific concerns or arguments forwarded by her that have went unmentioned in the above article, feel free to mention them and we will respond.

    -Abul Layth

  9. Jahad says:

    AsSalamu Alaikum

I have read the book Niqaab A Seal on The Debate and have found the book to be the most truthful book on this subject of the muslimah’s dress. The Authors presented her argument clear and with evidences from the Quran and the ahadeeth and also presented the arabic language to explain. If this book is to be refuted which it cannot be, it will take a scholar not you and one that is from ahlus sunnah wal jammah. Also your comment on, that all the scholars of the past have said the niqaab is wajib is a false statement, for we know that there has always been a difference of opinion on this subject and the author has shown how the truth can only be one. The truth from the ahadeeth without it being twisted to mean something different than what the Rasool (peace, mercy and blessings be upon him) has said.

    Jihad

  10. Umm Layth says:

Jihad, if you had read these articles properly you would see that what is being quoted are texts from the Qur’an and the Sunnah, and the explanations of the scholars. Within these articles the difference of opinion is clearly stated. We all know the ikhtilaf very well. So before you jump up and say this and that, please read it.

Also brother, Kamillah Khan isn’t a scholar. So it would be hypocritical of you to take from her when apparently you have issues with non-scholars talking about niqab. Hmmm.

  11. Jahad says:

    Asalamu Alaikum,

musa ali you are correct in thinking to ask what are the authors weak arugements, the daleel presented in the book comes from the two main sources Quran and ahadeeth. And the interpretation from the arabic language. i have not seen Abul Layth being able to show if she has made mistakes in the language of Quran and ahadeeth. For she has not.

    Jihad

  12. Jahad says:

    Asalamu alikum,

I also know the ikhtilaf very well. On reading Ms Khan’s book I am taking from the evidence where she took. I have exaimed All the evidences she has presented in the arabic language and she has made no mistakes. This is my area of study. If you should try to refute this book show the mistakes in the lanuage, brother. you will find there are none.

    Jihad

  13. Abul Layth says:

Jahad, seriously, why are you wasting our time with repeating the same claim as Musa?

Bring us a clear argument or shut your mouth. That simple!

Also, I am sunni, and you are not Allah ta’alaa or His Messenger to determine if I from Ahlus Sunnah or not. Bark someone elses’ tree before vomiting your stupidity on our site.

    Thanks,
    Abul Layth

  14. kareema says:

I have read the book, “Niqaab A Seal On The Debate”, the author did not use the hadith of Asma in her book. thus it makes me wonder if you really read the book.

    kareema

  15. Abul Layth says:

This article was not a response to her worthless, unscholarly book.

    As I said previously:

Actually almost all of her claims are responded to in this second part of the research. If you have any specific concerns or arguments forwarded by her that have went unmentioned in the above article, feel free to mention them and we will respond.

    -Abul Layth

  16. Umm Layth says:

    as salamu ‘alaykum sister Kareema,

The sister who wrote the book had part of her book (we had no idea it was even going to be published) posted up on todaysmuslimah and later removed when her book came out. So whatever was mentioned therein may have changed in her book, Allahu ‘Alam but her arguments still remained weak within the article.

  17. Umm Ali says:

    As Salamu ‘ Alaykum,

I have read her book and find it full of truth that are presented in the Quran and the Hadeeth and she uses the arabic language to prove her points. She is not a scholar but she is known as a student of knowledge amongest the ahlus sunnah wal jammah. I have read many of her articles and two of her books and i find that she only tells what is in the Quran and the Hadeeth, she does not give opinion but gives us evidences from these precious books.

    Umm Ali

  18. Abul Layth says:

Are there any specific arguments you feel that we did not answer in these two treatises on Niqab? If so what?

  19. seeker-of-knowledge says:

Has part 3 of this series been uploaded ?

  20. Zafran says:

    Salaam

were there any scholars that didnt believe that Niqab is fard?

  21. Zafran says:

    correction – was.

  22. Abu Zahra says:

Mashallah! An excellent article. Any news on the 3rd installment? Masalama.

  23. Hasan Ashraf says:

    Assalamu alaikum

When is Part 3, about the Hanafi scholars’ opinions regarding niqab going to be released?

  24. abul abaas says:

You didnt answer the athar of ibn umar when he said the face and hands in the tafseer of ‘ilaa maa tha;hara minhaa’- ibn hazm says concerning it ‘fi ghaayatis sihhah’

  25. abul abaas says:

I have found your 2 articles to be very beneficial mashallah. I only have two question- where have you learnt to give rulings on hadeeth by brother? Who gave you authority to do so? As in the first article you comented on some of the narrations and said ‘this is saheeh’…

Q.2 Akhi if you believe we should abandon all of albaani’s views why do you use them yourself in the first article?

I look forward to your reply
