Seeking Sacred Sunni Knowledge

The Heart, The Tongue, Their Sickness & Cures

thheart.gifI recently received via mail a gift from a friend. A gift I had underestimated. In fact, when I saw its poor cover I thought to myself to just let Umm Layth read it so she could tell me what was contained therein of good, as she generally does. I happened to pick the book up off the kitchen table and decided to read the first bit of it. On the first page, the page where all of the information regarding the book is – I admit that in every book I ever buy I always look at the publishing information. The history of the book can sometimes be told in the catalouging, paper quality etc. – I noticed that it said “Edited by AbdulHaq Bewley and Muhammad Isa Waley”. Yet on the front cover no mention of Sidi Bewley is found, rather, as you can see from the attached picture Shaykh Yassin Roushdy is the only one mentioned. This sparked my interest further. Anyone who has any experience in reading english Islamic literature knows all too well the vibrancy as well as barakah of the Bewley translation machine.

This book is a small book of some 38 pages. Though small in size, it is large in benefit. Shaykh Yassin calls upon the reader to do some soul analyzation. For example in his discussion of “Argumentation” he states,

“The type of arguing referred to here is that which has as its objective to show yurself as the one who is right, the one who knows better, and not merely to reveal the truth. Suppose you are sitting in a meeting or lecture and the speaker conveys a false piece of information; ask yourself this question, “Would I be equally satisified if someone else corrected the speaker or do I want to be the one who corrects him?” If you are equally satisfied, then you are not the type of person referred to here. If, however, you want to be the one who corrects the speaker, this is dangerous because in that case your motive is no to reveal the truth but to have the truth revealed by you.” (Page 7)

The Shaykh, ghafar Allahu lahu, begins his book by mentioning the illnesses. Then he mentions the cures. In fact, the structure he mentions them is reflective of the way of the true Sufis. The methodology of the Sufis is to determine the illness, then remove it by subduing the nafs through many different methods of medicine. The Shaykh uses as medicine Ahadeeth, stories of the Sahaabah (radhiya Allahu ‘Anhum) and the salaf. One of the results of this method is reformation of one’s intention.

Thie book is a fantastic reminder. Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. I recommend that every Saalik get ahold of it. Remember not to judge a book by its cover! May Allah make this book a benefit for the Saalikeen Aameen!

    To Whom It May Concern,
    Teachers, students, moderators and others:

    As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

I would like to inform you all that I have decided to resign from everything that has a relationship to Adly.Net (so-called Qur’an and Sunnah followers),
as of Friday, July 13, 2007. This will include, but is not limited to, administration, teaching, consultation etc. I think that it is fair for everyone to know why I reached this conclusion because assumption and suspicion are of the worst sins, and it has nothing to do with any of you. It has to do with the owner, director and person in charge of the website- which is Sr. Laila Nasheeba. There are two main factors: 1. Her mannerisms and behavior with the people is not the behavior of a teacher or a person giving dawah. In my opinion it is against the sunnah of the Prophet (s.a.w.). 2. Her continuation of teaching, misguiding people, and giving them wrong information. Here are a few examples: 1. The Prophet doesn’t commit sin. 2. The grave will squeeze and crush only the disbeliever. 3. The evil eye is not true. 4. Negating the hadith in Al Bukhari concerning a woman using cotton with musk after her menses, because she states that it contradicts medical evidences. 5. It is not a necessity for a scholar who teaches Islam to know the Arabic language and everything related to Arabic.
    6. Permissibility of a woman expressing her love for a brother (for the sake of Allah). 7. Catching the congregational prayer in the last sujuud does not give one the reward of making jam’aah prayer.. 8. Permssibility of the husband lying to his wife that he has a second wife. 9. No male scholar can give a proper answer related to menses better than a woman because he has not experienced menstruation. These are some of the errors and there are other examples that I don’t recall for the time being.

We understand that everyone can make mistakes, but the problem is when someone does not want to correct her mistakes, nor take the advice publicly or privately. I don’t think that I can tolerate this any longer – to see the sunnah abused in my presence, and not to prevent it from being corrected. I think that three years or more of being patient with these problems is sufficient. In conclusion, exaggeration and lying is not a part of the dawah- making people believe that she knows while she does not- is a criminal act. To make the claim that she studied under scholars, is nothing but a lie. Claiming to have ijaza allowing her to answer any question and giving opinions, is nothing but a lie. May Allah have Mercy on those people who know their limitations and act accordingly.

If anyone would like to respond to my statements or for me to have a public rebuttal, I am willing to do so.

As for those who would like to continue to receive my teachings, they may reach me at another website for the continuation of the classes. If you are interested, write me at islamiccenterofcolumbia@yahoo.com

May Allah guide us all and forgive us for our shortcomings. Ameen!

The Prophet of Allah(s.a.w.) said those among you who see something objectionable to Islam let him speak against it.

    As salaamu alaikum
    Muhammad S. Adly

  5. striving4jannah says:

shaykh adly’s classes have started this week. anyone is welcome to come.

by the way, shaykh adly does not call himself a salafi.

  6. Ibn Ajibah says:

He says that from her mistakes is the belief that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi was sallam) doesnt commit sin. Well, shes right on that, and he is the one that is wrong:

Imam al-Laqqani said in his poem on creed al-Jawhara:

    Bil Mu’jizat Ayyidu Takarruman
wa Isma al-Bari li Kulli Hattama

Through miracles they were aided by [His] generosity

And the infallibility given to them by the Creator is clear

  7. Abul Layth says:

Oh also sister striving, just because he does not call himself salafi, does not mean that he does not follow the pseudo-salafi doctrine.
